Description

This is an introductory welding course designed for students in diesel technology, agroecology, and related fields, focusing on essential welding and cutting skills used in equipment repair and fabrication across agricultural and industrial settings. Students will receive hands-on instruction in the safe operation of oxy-acetylene torches, including cutting and scarfing techniques commonly used for metal removal and repair preparation. The course also covers machine set-up and basic operation for GMAW (MIG) and SMAW (Stick) welding processes, with an emphasis on machine set-up, electrode selection, and equipment troubleshooting. A brief introduction to aluminum GMAW welding is included to familiarize students with differences in materials, shielding gases, and techniques. Students will also be introduced to carbon arc gouging for removing welds and defects efficiently. Emphasis on safety procedures, proper PPE use, and industry-standard practices.
