Description

The scope of this course is to provide instruction and assessment in the theory, operation, and application of Radar and ARPA for navigation and collision avoidance as required by federal regulations for Radar Observer Unlimited endorsement and ARPA training requirements for bridge watch officers on US flagged vessels; AND to meet the STCW Radar and ARPA TASK assessments established in NAVIC 12-14 for OICNW Operation and Management level on seagoing vessels of 500 GT (200 GRT) and greater; including:
a. 1.4.A Position fix by two ranges.
b. 1.4.B Position fix by two tangents to identified objects.
c. 3.1 Radar Fundamentals.
d. 3.2.A Setup and maintain radar display.
e. 3.2.B Switch display modes.
f. 3.3.A Identify false echoes, sea return, radar, and SART.
g. 3.4 Interpreting information from a radar.
h. 3.5.A Setup and maintain an ARPA display.
i. 3.6 Use of ARPA.
