Description
The scope of this course is to provide instruction and assessment in the theory, operation, and application of Radar for navigation and collision avoidance as required by federal regulations for Radar Observer Unlimited endorsement; AND to meet the STCW Radar TASK assessments established in NAVIC 12-14 for OICNW Operation and Management level on seagoing vessels of 500 GT (200 GRT) and greater, including:
a. 1.4.A Position fix by two ranges.
b. 1.4.B Position fix by two tangents to identified objects.
c. 3.1 Radar Fundamentals.
d. 3.2.A Setup and maintain radar display.
e. 3.2.B Switch display modes.
f. 3.3.A Identify false echoes, sea return, radar, and SART.
g. 3.4 Interpreting information from a radar.
This course is open to all mariners. However, it is strongly recommended that the mariner hold an MMC National Officer endorsement, or have good plotting and navigation skills.
