Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) is a trauma-informed, evidence-based, skills focused approach for working with children and adults who are having challenges meeting everyday expectations in their actions and behavior. It teaches a philosophy/mindset grounded in neuroscience and evidence, paired with specific processes for assessment, planning, and intervention, that promotes socio-emotional learning and a growth mindset.
CPS is a unique model, in that it can be and is utilized across all settings- schools, psychiatric inpatient, psychiatric residential, outpatient, juvenile justice, child welfare, foster care, and families. It provides a fundamental interactive approach that can also be used by individuals at all levels of the system, including typically credentialed individuals, administrators, traditional health workers, family members, other caregivers, and even clients, thus fostering both horizontal and vertical integration.
